Welcome to the Mulino Hamlet’s New Blog!

By now you’re probably wondering “What happened to the hamlet’s website?”.

Well, here’s the story. Last month, October 2009, I was having problems with my website, on which the hamlet’s website was hosted. The problem was with a script provided to me by the hosting service which turned out to contain malware. Malware is malicious software. This was a piece of E-commerce software that was provided by the hosting service I was subscribed to and which I had installed on my website. I was unaware of the problem untill my subscription was cancelled by the hosting service. When I questioned the hosting service about why my subscription had been cancelled, I was informed that two image files associated with the script were the source of malware and was accused of infecting their server on which I had installed the script.

When I attempted to set up a new hosting account with the company I was refused.

I don’t believe that I was the source of the malware, the two files that were indicated as malware were files that I had not uploaded to the server. But be that as it may, I am no longer with that hosting service.

What this means is that, in addition to loosing my own websites which supported my businesses and my own personal graphics and photography work, because I was hosting the hamlet’s website, that’s gone from the web as well. I still have all of the files associated with the hamlet’s website, but untill I can find a hosting service for the hamlet, those are not currently available. I’m working on getting them back up, but for the time being, the hamlet’s old webpages are not available. I intend for them to be available next week sometime in a temporary location and will post a note on this blog when that happens.

In the mean time, and I hope for a long time to come, I’ve set up this blog on Word Press.

What I hope of this blog over the long term, is for it to provide a venue for easily accessible updates on what’s going on in Mulino, and a public forum between monthly meetings. The blog is a stand alone web prescence for the hamlet that will cost the hamlet no money to maintain, freeing up the hamlet’s financial resources for other projects – like the eventual regular website, maintenance of the hamlet’s registered domain, as well as other important projects that do require financial resources.

The hamlet board members will also have access to the administration of this blog, as they will the regular website when it goes up in the future. So they will not be dependant on me, which was a goal of mine when I designed the original website to begin with.

I’ll be adding functions to the website over the coming days and weeks, so check back often to see what’s new. The blog also has a feed function both for new posts as well as comments to posts, enabling everyone to keep abreast of updates to the blog easily through the feed function of their web browser. To subscribe to the feed(s) for this blog, just click on the type of feed you’d like to subscribe to at the top of this page where it says Feeds.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me via email – loiosh@molalla.net or just comment on this posting. I’m subscribed in the feeds 😉

Please note – that email address is new, so update your email contact list or address book appropriately.
